Featured in the side altar at the end of this walkway is one of the few Michelangelo pieces outside of Italy, and the only one to leave Italy during the artist's lifetime. Out of awe or respect, I didn't take any close-up photos of this Madonna and Child sculpture, dating from 1504. I could have shot an entire roll, as visitors are (or at least were) allowed within about 12 feet of this treasure, and there was no one around when I reached it. But I didn't even try. For once, instead of snapping photos, I was content just to be humbled and amazed.
