The next five images actually were taken in the town of Damme, about 10 minutes northeast of Brugge. Steve and I didn't see many people there, but we did find this cathedral, Onze Lieve Vrouwkerk (also spelled Vrouwekerk). I am embarrassingly ignorant about it, but I know it's an early gothic cathedral, begun sometime around 1300. All these Damme photos were taken on the same day in March 2003. One of the cool things about out-of-the-way villages like Damme, especially in low season, is that you usually have things pretty much to yourself. This day was no exception. We were free to explore in solitude.
