I shot this photo Les Aiguilles de Chamonix shortly after completing an unplanned refresher course in altitude acclimation. Overly excited about the landscape, weather, and absence of other people, I literally ran from the cable car, up some stairs, and to the first observation platform I could find. “What a view!” I thought to myself. That was right before the lightheadedness and nausea hit. I felt kind of stupid, slumped over a railing like a sick cat, waiting for the feeling to pass. You really have to slow down over 10,000 feet.
