Another view across the Seine to the Louvre. You could spend a week exploring the museum and not see any piece twice (or even once). Supposedly, some 30,000 paintings are on display, along with thousands of sculptures and other works. Don't be overwhelmed; just plan in advance the works/areas you want to see.
Your plans probably will include the Mona Lisa. Be prepared for large crowds and a glass cover protecting the painting (put in place after some moron spit on it). Unless you just want to be able to say you saw this famous piece, I'd almost avoid it. There are so many other beautiful, historic works at the Louvre, including those by Da Vinci and other masters, you're certain to be moved by the experience. Plus, you can get very close to these paintings (within a foot or so) and study at them as long as you like, without a crowd pushing you away. No matter how you decide to explore, if you get to Paris, you must experience the Louvre. It's really one-of-a-kind.
