If you head north on the E10 from Svolvær (toward Fiskebøl), turn left just after Sildpollneset, continue for eight or nine kilometers past Mørkamyran, Vestpolleidet, and Oddun, turn left on the dirt road marked “Vatnfjorden,” and keep going until the road ends, you’ll eventually wind up here. When you arrive, you’ll look around, gape-mouthed and bewildered, like Dorothy did after landing in Oz, and say something like, “Wow, this doesn’t look like Houston at all.” Then you’ll take a bunch of photos of the same thing because it’s just so achingly beautiful and perfect that you can’t help yourself.
