The village of Reine, toward the south end of Lofoten, has been voted the most scenic place in Norway. That’s saying a lot, since Norway is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The day we visited, it was overcast, but the appeal of this place transcends weather. Here, you’re looking at the immense, steep cliffs of the Reinebringen, towering straight up from the water like a vision from Lord of the Rings. A lot of scenery in southern Lofoten has a surreal quality that seems to defy the laws of physics. Trails lead to the top of the Reinebringen, and on a clear day, that vantage point offers photo opportunities that certainly justify a return visit.
