Our goal this day was to reach Lillehammer, host to the 1994 Winter Olympics. If we’d driven directly there from our hotel in the center of Oslo, it might have taken two hours. But we made several detours along the way, including a magical side-trip down County Road 180 (see Skimteflaten and Skrukkelia below), so the trip took much longer.

(Thanks to Susanne for her excellent driving skills this day and throughout the trip. Since she’s far more experienced than me driving in ice and snow, she offered to take the wheel. And I’m glad she did. We didn’t crash once!)

On our approach to Lillehammer, we noticed this view of Mjøsa Fjord, which leads right into the city. It turned out to be the final photo opportunity of the day. As you can see, the sun was almost gone when we arrived.
