Mölen, Norway, is not a town, but a monument, something akin to a state park. About 90 minutes southeast of Olso, it’s located at the point where Langesunds Fjord enters the Skagerrak sea between Norway and Sweden. This photo was taken near the confluence of these two bodies of water.

We went to Mölen, in part, to see the burial cairns there. Some date back almost 4,000 years. We drove the end of the land, parked the car and walked the icy path to the sea, searching for the graves. If you’ve ever seen one of these things, you know they’re generally fairly large and easy to spot. Unfortunately, we didn’t find any. There were a lot of unremarkable rocks. Maybe we walked right past the gravesites without realizing it.

No worries, though. The day was pretty nice (warmer by the sea, at least), and we were the only people there at the time. And even though we failed to find the cairns, the overcast skies and desolate setting were satisfyingly peaceful and creepy. Plus, we found an old (military?) bunker that might have served as a defensive post during WWII. Cool.
