Until I started reading about Langesundsfjord a few days ago, I had no idea that it’s the very epicenter of the most diverse rock and mineral deposits in Norway. But it is! In fact, none other than Olav Larson absolutely raves about "The syenite pegmatites in the Larvic plutonic complex in the Olso Region. . . ." You’re welcome for that information.
Susanne and I didn’t know any of this while planning our itinerary for the day. We were just trying to find a place that might be a little sunny, and the weather forecast indicated that we should head south. This is as far as we got. One cool thing about the rocks you see on the beach: the smaller ones are almost perfectly round and smooth. You can hear them bouncing and rolling over each other as the waves come in. It sounds kind of like what you’d expect to hear if the bratty neighbor kid was rolling five jawbreakers around in his mouth.
