Gustav Adolfs Torg (“Torg” = “Square”), in central Stockholm, is named after King Gustav II Adolf. His reign began in 1611, when he was only 17, and ended when he was killed in battle, in 1632. An enlightened leader and skilled military commander, Gustav II Adolf may be the most admired of all Swedish kings, and he is the only one known as “den Store” (“The Great”).
