Originally built in the 16th Century, Drottningholm Palace burned down in 1661. Construction began the following year on the current homestead (about the same time they started building Versailles, in France). It was completed in 1682. In the 1750s and 1760s, a theatre and Chinese pavilion were added at the request of Queen Lovisa Ulrika, who apparently wasn't satisfied with new furniture and a television.
