Forshems kyrka (church) was our first stop on a tour of 12th Century churches in Västergötland. Most famous for its stone relief carvings, Forshems kyrka also has wonderful ceiling paintings dating from the 1400s. As is common in these churches, it also a grave in the floor, seen here. At one time, Forshems kyrka was a destination for Christian pilgrims. I was blown away by this amazing church, and was even more stunned when I realized, as the day went on, that it is fairly typical for this part of Sweden.
