This is Mustard Point, photographed from a different angle. Believe it or not, the shabby-looking ground shrubs here represent an unusual amount of green for this area, which usually is brown, gray and bone dry. Because Arizona and Utah got a lot of rain and snow last winter and spring, there were more flowers and green during this trip than I’d ever seen out there before. Even nearby Lake Powell was more full than last time we saw it. Despite the extra rain, I’m surprised anything can live in this severely depleted "soil." I have a lot of respect for these hearty weeds, just for being there.
