Here’s a good example of the wild combinations of colors and formations out in "Big Water." The hoodoo on the left is a remnant of some ancient volcanic activity. The immense cliffs on the right are sedimentary remains of a giant freshwater lake that used to cover this entire region. I don’t know if these landscapes are "scenic" in the traditional sense. But to me, they always are fascinating, beautiful and timeless remains of a world long gone. My imagination takes off every time I visit this place. Primitive, silent, and even a little intimidating, these rocks have a powerful attraction. Like the plants that manage to survive in this environment, I feel in awe of them.
