What’s this? A very large, colorful rock, I’d say. With holes and such. (Those freshman geology courses really paid off!)
You see a lot of giant boulders out here, perched on little pedestals or resting awkwardly, like this one. They litter the plateau through which NPS 230 winds. Over the eons, they’ve fallen from the cliffs above, eroded by water, wind, ice and time. You wonder how it felt and sounded when they fell, and how they came to rest in such strange positions. This boulder is probably 12-15 high. Unfortunately, I didn’t include anything in the photo to give perspective. Next time.
