The Paria River empties into the Colorado about a hundred yards from this spot, just downstream from Lee's Ferry. "Paria" means "muddy water" in the Paiute language, and the name fits. Here, the brown Paria River flows side-by-side with the blue-green Colorado, which is filtered by the Glen Canyon Dam a few miles upstream. Within a quarter mile or so, the two rivers merge into the familiar muddy Colorado that flows through the Grand Canyon.
