View through the “North Window.” You can reach this point in your own vehicle by driving the (often crowded and always rough) loop road that winds through Monument Valley’s major sites. However, I strongly recommend hiring a Navajo guide when you visit. Guides are easy to find, both inside (my preference) and outside the park. Tour costs vary, depending on the length and route, but they are relatively inexpensive. They offer the best way to learn about the history and cultural significance of Monument Valley, and to visit places that most people never see. If your budget allows, I also suggest hiring your own guide, instead of riding with a group. This allows a much more personalized tour, and more flexibility about deciding where you want to go and how long you remain at each spot. A good guide can make a huge difference in your experience, and since the guide drives, you’ll be saving your car a serious beating.
