Weird landscape in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, on the north side of Lake Powell. Just outside Big Water, Utah, this is one of the strangest, most interesting places I’ve ever been. The gray soil supports almost no life, and it crumbles underfoot into a sort of pumice sand. You almost never see anyone else in this inhospitable area, so you can explore, climb, and photograph freely. For reference, the point of this rock formation is about 600 feet tall. The cliffs to the left are another few hundred feet in elevation.
