In the late 1800s, Lee’s Ferry was one of the only points of crossing along the entire Colorado River. (Even today, there are only two places to cross the river for hundreds of miles: the Navajo Bridge, which replaced Lee’s Ferry in 1929; and Glen Canyon Dam, in Page). Lee’s Ferry Fort, shown here, was built in 1874 to protect the small local Mormon community and the ferry itself. The fort was later used as a trading post and residence. I’m not sure who left the wagon wheel.
